In chapter 10 he talks about how the internet may give more freedom than people expected it to give. This is true, there really is no limit to postable content and learnable information on the web. And the more freedom people have, the more drama they’ll have as well. So with all the copyright issues going on with pirated movies and music, or online plagiarism… did they not see it coming? Maybe I’m not hurt as much because I don’t make a living by copyrighting my work, but I really think that people have to learn to accept their work being used for free until someone comes up with a successful way of stopping all the pirating and plagiarism.
I really love the quote that was mentioned no the first day of class, “We tend to be bound by out past, even when we can imagine the future,” on page 236. I completely agree with him! Any ‘creative’ or ‘new’ thoughts I have comes from some kind of combination of information I have learned in the past.
I think he’s pretty clever by ending his book with the line, “Let’s get started,” because even though we just finished his book it is a beginning to us seeing life differently than we used to. I realized why learning is so hard today because there is so much new content and programs being created so rapidly that we have to struggle just to keep up with the world–and sometimes, we don’t even want it to change, we’re happy with how everything is going. To be able to grow we must first learn about our environment, which is why people read books. Information expands our mental awareness of our surroundings and in our generations case, we learn and grow through the ever-changing media and mass communication suddenly showing themselves ubiquitously like a game of whack-a-mole. This book wasn’t as boring as I thought it would be, and thought I admit I skipped over a few sections I feel more aware of how the world communicates now, and will communicate in the future.

October 29, 2008The vlog I found, Walking on Air, is about a “city slicker’s” view of wildlife and nature. While on her explorations of nature in various wildlife parks and points of interest she documents what she comes across and shares her experiences, as well as some specifics about what she has found and tid bits about the moment and location that the videos were captured. This vlog appears to be a little out of date as the most recent post was June of 2007 and most posts were created in 2005. There are approximately a dozen posts on this vlog.

Vlog of a Fat Man
October 29, 2008I found a vlog that is mainly about dieting, exercise, and weight loss. The name of the vlog is “fatman unleashed” by Israel Lagares. In this vlog, Israel takes one last attempt to trade his 348 pound frame for one of around 220 to 235 by trying a variety of weight loss plans. This vlog is active since he still gives updates weekly or more frequently and seems to be quite popular. There are around two hundred episodes in the archives altogether.
